UCU Canons, Kampala Rockets Set for Decider

Sunday, September 14
*KCCA Leopards Vs Magic Stormers (1-1) – 2pm
*Kampala Rockets Vs UCU Canons (1-1) – 4pm
UCU Canons and Kampala Rockets will battle for a semifinal spot when they face off in a decisive game three of the NBL Playoffs quarterfinals on Sunday at Jaguars den in Kira.
The best-of-three series is finely balanced at 1-1, with Sunday’s winner earning a ticket to meet Namuwongo Blazers in the semifinals.
After falling 49-50 in game one, the Canons bounced back strongly in game two, cruising to a 79-52 victory. UCU set the tone early with a dominant 28-16 first quarter and never looked back.
Despite the big win, coach Nicholas Natuhereza will be seeking more consistency in attack after only Joel Kayiira (16 points) managed to score in double figures in game two.
On the other hand, the Rockets will be desperate to rediscover their regular season form, having beaten UCU twice in their earlier meetings.
Coach Daniel Najja Juuko’s side struggled in game two, losing the rebounding battle 43-48, shooting just 5-of-22 from three-point range, and committing 23 turnovers.
For Rockets, much will depend on the performances of their key men Pauti Ozias Kikomba, Mpiya Juf, Christian Ndibu, and Gideon Kasasa if they are to recover and book a semifinal place.
