The men’s 5000m final at the Paris 2024 Olympics will take center stage on the evening of Saturday, 10th August 2024 at Stade De France in Paris city.
There are 22 men in the battle field, all targeting for the podium in this race.
Uganda’s Oscar Chelimo is the lone soldier for the team in absence of the defending champion and world record holder Joshua Cheptegei (12:35:36) as well as Jacob Kiplimo.
Cheptegei and Kiplimo (biological brother to Chelimo) pulled out of the 5000m race citing fatigue.
Chelimo’s personal best time is 12:45.59 which is also his seasonal best timing.
World’s number two Jakob Ingebrigsten (Norway), number three Hagos Gebrhiwet from Ethiopia and fifth placed Fisher Grant (USA) are some of the elite athletes set for the final.
Other contenders include Dominic Lokinyomo Lobalu, currently 7th in the world ranking and 9th ranked Biniam Mehary (Ethiopia).
The host country France will be boldly represented by Hay Hugo (13:02.61, personal best) and Schrub Yann (13:04.27, personal and seasonal best time).
The Olympic record in the 5000m race is currently held by Ethiopian legend Kenenisa Bekele, set on 23rd August 2008 in Beijing, China.
