Brazil, United States of America (USA), Spain and Germany progressed to the semi-finals of the women football at the on-going Paris 2024 Olympics in France.

Brazil edged hosts France 1-0 as Gabi Portilho scored the all-important goal in the 82nd minute of the game played before 32,280 spectators at Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes.

The game was officiated by FIFA Referee Tori Penso from the United States of America (USA).

Penso issued out 9 cautions in total (5 to Brazil and 4 to France).

France’s Sakina Karchaoui missed a penalty on the quarter hour mark.

Canada lost 2-4 to Germany in post match penalties at Stade Orange Velodrome before 12,517 spectators.

Normal time for this contest had failed to produce any goal before Brazilian referee Edina Alves Batista called for the extra added minutes and penalties finally.

Giuila Gwinn, Janina Minge, Felicitas Rauch and Ann Katrin Berger scored Germany’s penalties whilst Sydney Lohmann missed her kick.

Rebecca Quinna and Janine Beckie scored for Canada as Ashley Lawrence and Adriana Leon missed their respective kicks.

United States of America (USA) edged Japan 1-0 at the Parc des Princes stadium before 43,004 spectators.

The only goal of the match came in the 105th minute during extra time from Trinity Rodman during a contest officiated by Tess Olofsson from Sweden.

Spain eliminated Colombia 4-2 in post-match penalties at the Groupama stadium.

Normal time of this duel officiated by Mexican referee Katia Garcia had ended 2-goals apiece.

Colombia took a 2-0 lead through Mayra Ramirez and Leicy Santos’ goals.

Spain gallantly fought back to score through Jennifer Hermoso and a late strike from Irene Paredes in the 97th minute to take the game into extra time.

In the shoot-out, Spain scored through Mariona Caldentey, Eva Navarro, Salma Paralluelo and AItana Bonmati.

Colombia’s Manuela Vanegas and Jorelyn Carabali were on target whilst Catalina Usme and Liana Salazar missed their kicks.

The semi-finals will be played on Tuesday, 6th August 2024. United States of America (USA) will face Germany at 6 PM.

Brazil will then take on Spain at 9:00 PM.

Meanwhile, the men’s semi-finals come on Monday, 5th August 2024. Morocco takes on Spain at 6 PM and later at 9 PM, France will battle Egypt.
