Isaiah Mwesige, founder of the Afriyea Golf Academy and a passionate golfer and climate change activist, recently found himself in the spotlight at the world’s biggest golf major championship, The Open, held at Royal Troon in Scotland.

This prestigious event, attracting hundreds of golfers and fans globally, featured renowned players such as Tiger Woods, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Jon Rahm, and Dustin Johnson.

Beyond the thrilling golf competition, sustainability took center stage at The Open.

Mwesige had the honor of being invited by the global governing body, the R&A, which focuses on developing the game and promoting sustainability.

During The Open, Mwesige was featured live on Sky Sports’ coverage of the event, sharing the inspiring story of his mission in Uganda.

At the Afriyea Academy, children are taught both golf skills and sustainability practices, merging sports with environmental stewardship.

Recently, Mwesige was hosted by Henni Koyack and Josh Antmann, where he emphasized the importance of instilling sustainability in young people from an early age, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.

Mwesige has promoted many junior golf programs in Uganda as well as protection and sustainability of the environment.
