The Uganda Olympics Committee (UOC) has for the third time in a row officially partnered with insurance gurus Sanlam Insurance for the prestigious Olympics games.
Sanlam Insurance General Insurance announced a hefty package for team Uganda heading to the Paris 2024 Olympics (26th July to 11th August) as the official travel insurance partner.
This followed successful partnerships from the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Games in Brazil and Japan respectively.
Deborah K. Mwesigwa, the general manager – commercial business at Sanlam General Insurance confirmed the development during a special press conference held at the insurer’s main offices in Kampala on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
Sanlam General Insurance is excited to partner with the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) for the third time running coming to the Olympic Games. The cover is for medical, travel and other related risk costs. For each person, a total of $1M will be covered. The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) was well represented by the president Dr. Donald Rukare, general secretary Beatrice Ayikoru and the chef de mission for team Uganda at the Olympics Moses Mwase.
Dr. Rukare lauded Sanlam General Insurance for this timely offer.

Thereafter, an official memorandum of understanding was signed between UOC and Sanlam General Insurance with the nitty gritty embedded in the binding documents.
Mwase, Uganda’s Chef De Mission for the team headed to France gave an insight about the team.
Today (Thursday, 6th June 2024), we mark 50 days to the opening ceremony, and we would encourage more partners to support the general preparations of team Uganda so that the athletes prepare well to represent the country with dignity. We expect about 37 athletes and 28 officials to travel for France. The athletes will come from the Aquatics (Swimming), Athletics, Cycling, Rowing and Rugby (if they make the qualification mark). During the previous games in Japan, Uganda won two gold medals, 1 silver and a bronze, all from athletics.

The Government of Uganda is the main stakeholder for the team. The others are Sanlam General Insurance, Kansai Plascon and Nile Breweries Limited.
