Investigation underway as young woman dies at Kampala nightclub – Police confirm

Detectives at Kira Road Police Station are investigating a suspected poisoning case at Mezo Noir, a popular nightclub in Kampala, after a female named Martha Ahumuza Murari reportedly collapsed in the manager’s office and was later pronounced dead.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday 20th March 2025.

The victim, identified as Martha Ahumuza Murari, collapsed around 3:30 a.m. and was rushed to Kampala Hospital, where she was placed on life support but did not survive.

The victim, only identified as Martha at the time, met her friend, Edward Mugabo, a cashier at the bar, at around 2 a.m. They drank together until 3:30 a.m. when they moved to the manager’s office, which has no CCTV cameras.

The victim reportedly collapsed in the office, and Mugabo notified his brother, Joseph Kalenzi. They rushed her to Kampala Hospital, where she was put on life support.

Police have detained Mugabo and Kalenzi to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The two brothers are being held at Kira Road Police Station as investigations into the incident continue.

Martha’s father, Seth Murari, expressed grief over the tragic incident and urged the public to stop spreading unverified information on social media.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the loss of our beloved daughter, Ahumuza Martha. As of now, we ask the public to STOP speculating and circulating wrong information on social media as we put her to rest and let the security organs do their job of investigating.

Martha Ahumuza Murari will be laid to rest on Sunday, March 23, in Mbarara.
