Pastor, 3 Followers Arrested for Refusing Census.
A pentecostal church pastor in Mityana district Samuel Kalibbala, has been put behind bars with his 3 other followers for allegedly declining to censor them.
The incident happened on Thursday at Naama Central, Busimbi Division, Mityana Municipality, where the pastor decided to lock himself with his followers inside the church strongly arguing with the census enumerator that they do not believe in government programs but only believe in Jesus.
The Regional Police spokesperson, SP Rachael Kawala, explained that when the enumerator appeared to the Pastor's church to implement his task, the pastor refused but only to obstruct the lawful exercise of the government.
However, the enumerator decided to report the matter to police after the pastor and followers locked themselves inside the church, despite requests to censor them.
“ I want to confirm that we arrested the suspects and we are going to charge them for obstructing a lawful government activity.’’ Kawala said in a press statement she released.
Kawala also noted that the four suspects identified as Kitika Joseph, Nakamate Grace and Nabasirye Shamim have since recorded statements and inquiries into the matter are still ongoing as they are being detained at Mityana Central Police Station waiting to be taken to court.
