Cranes Player Ratings: Uganda 1-2 Algeria | FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Travis Mutyaba early goal was not enough as Uganda threw a first half lead to lose 2-1 to visitors Algeria on Monday.

Cranes did well in the first half to contain the Desert Foxes but switched off after the break allowing the visitors purposeful dominance and control of the game.

Here is how Ismael Kiyonga rated the Ugandan lads on the disappointing evening.

Isma Watenga 6.0: Good reaction to catch the ball after Said Benrahma shot hit the base of the post in the first half in which he wasn’t worked. Made a good stop in the second half to keep the Cranes in the game but had nothing to do with both goals conceded.

Kenneth Ssemakula 4.0: Combative in the first half and appeared comfortable on the ball before his failure to control of the ball initiated the visitors attack that yielded the second goal.

Isaac Muleme 5.0: Had a torrid evening against marauding right back Atal and Amoura as well as Bennacer who camped on his side. Several times bailed out by Mato.

Elio Capradossi 6.0: Read the game well and made some important interceptions but not as elegant as he was against Botswana.

Halid Lwaliwa 3.0: Never assured and was involved in the two goals Uganda conceded. Slipped at the most important time in the build up to the winner. Replaced by Awany after claiming to have got injured.

Bobosi Byaruhanga 5.0: A little decency with the ball but not with it. Early booking could have damaged his game plan.

Ronald Ssekiganda 5.0: Overpowered by Algeria’s quality in the middle of the pack but was always willing to receive the ball.

Travis Mutyaba 6.5: Scored a beautiful goal after stealing possession and tried to create opportunities with his skills. His decision to pass the ball to Mukwala instead of going for goal inside the area before of first half was suspect.

Fahad Bayo 5.0: Starved of possession and not as effective even when he rarely got it. Subbed twelve minutes into the second half.

Steven Mukwala 4.5: Had to remember his impact on the game.

Rogers Mato 6.5: Willing runner not afraid to take on his opponents and also defensively did well to aid Muleme. Could have earned a penalty.

Substitutes

Muhammad Shaban 5.0: Arrived at a time when the visitors were in control and didn’t get any clear chance to show predatory instincts.

Denis Omedi 4.0: Struggled to get on the ball.

Timothy Awany 5.0: Didn’t look the part but wasn’t as troubled as he came on a time when Algeria opted to hold on to their lead than endlessly attack.

Ibrahim Kasule N/a: Showed glimpses of what he can offer with some creative passes but came in late.

Patrick Kakande N/a: Looked confident on his debut but no time to show what has endeared him to many fans.
