Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the date on which the groups for the qualifiers to Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be made.

4th July 2024 has been confirmed as the date on which the draws for the next edition of AFCON will be made to determine the qualification groups for the 48 Nations.

“The journey to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 will resume with the draw for the Qualifiers on Thursday, 04 July 2024, in Johannesburg, South Africa. The draw will be conducted at SuperSport studios in South Africa at 14h30 local time (15h30 Cairo time, 12h30 GMT).” Reads a statement on the CAF website.

48 Nations, including the four winners from the preliminary round (Chad, Eswatini, Liberia and South Sudan) will be drawn into 12 Groups of four teams each to battle it out for places at the finals.

The Qualifiers will start in September this year to determine the 24 teams that will make it to Morocco next year.

It is believed the tournament will be played in December 2025 rather than the June-July window.
