Arsenal news and transfers live: Ruben Neves plan, Emi Buendia alternative, Saka injury update

Edu and Mikel Arteta are already hard at work overhauling Arsenal's squad in preparation for next season.

Arsenal had a poor season, missing out on European football for the first time in 25 years, but there is hope that with the Kroenkes' vow to invest in the team ahead of next season, they may return to the top six.

But getting new acquisitions - and indeed exits - right will be crucial, and Edu and Arteta will be in charge of that.

However, the pair look to have already suffered a setback, with Emi Buendia - a player Arsenal sought and offered £30 million for - on his way to Aston Villa. So, what's next for Arsenal?

Join us on our live blog below, where we'll keep you up to date on everything that's going on throughout the day.

Contact made for Neves

As we mentioned earlier in the blog, Arsenal are reportedly keen on Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.

Now, The Athletic are reporting that contact between the Gunners and Wolves has been made for the 24-year-old, who is allowed to leave Molineux this summer.

Arsenal fans split on Neves

Arsenal supporters are divided on whether they want their club to sign Ruben Neves this summer.

The Times reported earlier today that the Gunners have turned their attention to Neves, who is apparently allowed to leave Wolves in the coming months.

Leno on the move?

Could Bernd Leno be on the way out of Arsenal this summer? According to Fabrizio Romano, there are numerous interested teams for the German goalkeeper.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for Ajax shot-stopper Andre Onana, who could be being looked at as Leno's replacement.

Saka injured

Bukayo Saka is set to miss England's friendly with Romania this evening due to a hip problem, according to The Athletic.

Saka scored his first goal for the Three Lions on Wednesday evening in the 1-0 win versus Austria, but has now suffered an injury.

However, there is no indication yet that this could affect the 19-year-old's chances of featuring at the upcoming Euros.

Arsenal sent Coutinho transfer warning

Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn has warned Arsenal against a move for Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for former Liverpool star Coutinho, but Winterburn thinks a move would be unwise given the "young talent" the north London club already has at its disposal.

"I wouldn't go down that line, we've got a lot of young talent coming through," he told Goal.

"Unless he would be on the right wages or if there was a way to fit him in then it could be an option."

Gunners handed Edouard blow

According to The Times, reported Arsenal target Odsonne Edouard is set to complete a £15million move to Leicester City.

Edouard looks like he will be reunited with former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers at the King Power Stadium.

The Gunners had been linked with a move for the French striker, with the future of Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette in doubt.

Buendia alternatives

Arsenal may not win the race to sign Emi Buendia this summer, but there are other alternatives out there.

We take a look at some of the options here, including highly-rated young French star Romain Faivre.

Ruben Neves links

Arsenal are reportedly working on a deal to bring Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves to North London.

The Times state that the Gunners are trying to sign the Portuguese midfielder after Wolves made him available for transfer this summer in a bid to raise funds for their new manager following Nuno Espirito Santo's departure.

It has previously been reported that he could be available for a fee of around £35million.

And with Granit Xhaka looking likely to leave this summer, Neves could be a replacement for the Swiss international.

Edu's next five moves

Despite the disappointing blow of missing out on signing the 2020/21 Championship Player of the Season in Emi Buendia, the Gunners' blueprint for this summer's window is not thought to have changed.

As reported by football.london last month, Arsenal want to bring in five new first-team players this summer as a minimum, all of whom would bolster different areas of the squad.

Read all about those moves and where the club want to strengthen.

Buendia setback

Arsenal's hopes of signing Norwich City sensation Emiliano Buendia this summer appear to have reached their conclusion.

According to multiple reports in the national media on Saturday evening, Aston Villa have won the race for the Argentina international, striking a club-record deal with the Canaries to secure his signature.

Like Arsenal, Villa saw an opening offer of around £30million rejected earlier this week, but refused to throw in the towel in their hopes of adding the 24-year-old to their armoury ahead of next season, making Norwich an increased offer of around £35m, plus add-ons, which has since been accepted.

Guendouzi latest

Marseille's move for Matteo Guendouzi is still on the cards according to L'Equipe.

Marseille have sealed a deal for Brazilian Gerson but according to the French press his arrival will 'not compromise' the transfer move for Guendouzi.
