How much Tottenham missed out on amid Serge Aurier transfer links to Arsenal

One of the most surprising rumours of the summer has seen former Tottenham defender Serge Aurier linked with north London rivals Arsenal.

The Ivorian defender was released by Spurs on deadline day, both parties agreeing to the termination of his contract a year early.

The decision brought to an end a four-year spell in north London for the former Paris Saint-Germain defender, a period in which he made 110 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Despite that move, Aurier could actually be staying in the Premier League and indeed the capital after all having been linked to Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal.

According to Sky Sports, the 28-year-old would consider a switch to the Emirates Stadium following his Tottenham exit as he attempts to find a new club.

Should he do that, it would signal Spurs missing out on a considerable windfall in comparison to potentially selling the right-back.

As per transfermarkt, he is currently valued at £18million, ironically only just short of what Arsenal have paid for deadline day signing Takehiro Tomiyasu, who is comfortable playing on the right side of defence and is also a player who looked close to a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this summer.

Whilst Spurs have missed out on that fair chunk of cash, Arsenal would certainly be the beneficiaries should they potentially pick up a valuable right-back for nothin

Of course, there is no guarantee that Tottenham would have been able to command that lofty amount for Aurier with just a solitary season left on his contract.

However, it will certainly irritate should they see their near-neighbours secure his services for free considering their reported £23million outlay on the Ivorian just over four years ago.
