In the bustling city of Kampala, Uganda, where the streets hum with the rhythm of daily life, a young man named Vincent Reagan Lumala embarked on a journey that would transform his life and elevate the sport of skating in his country.

Born and bred in the remote confines where resources were scarce and opportunities limited, Lumala’s story is one of resilience, passion, and unwavering dedication.

In 2011, Lumala’s skating journey began under the dim lights of Kampala’s nights.

By day, he was a dedicated student, but when the sun set, he laced up his skates, learning the basics from his friend Victor.

The streets of Makerere Kubili became his training ground, a place where he could escape the pressures of academia and dive into the world of skating.

The lack of formal training facilities did not deter Lumala; instead, he found camaraderie and purpose within the street skating groups that dotted the city.

Skating quickly became more than just a pastime—it became his passion.

However, the streets held dangers as well as opportunities. The deaths of close friends due to street violence shook Lumala to his core, prompting him to leave behind the perilous world of street skating.

He decided to take skating seriously, channeling his energy into mastering the sport.

Achievements:

Lumala joined roll ball skating groups and quickly rose through the ranks, earning a deserved and treasured slot on Uganda’s National Roll Ball Team.

His talent and determination propelled him to compete in numerous national and international events, where he proudly represented Uganda.

His achievements include competing in the 2nd East Africa Roll Ball Championship in Rwanda, the 4th East Africa Roll Ball Championship in Kenya, and serving as the team captain at the Inline Speed Skating Championship in Colombia in 2021.

Most recently, he also competed in the 6th Roll Ball World Championship in 2023.

Lumala’s success on the international stage has made him one of the most beloved and decorated skaters in Uganda.

His accomplishments have helped bring recognition to the sport of skating in Uganda, as he has raised the national flag high in multiple competitions.

In 2016, driven by a desire to give back to his community and nurture the next generation of skaters, Lumala founded the first-ever roller skating club in Uganda, the Skating Club of Kampala.

Through this club, he has trained thousands of skaters, some as young as three years old.

His dedication to the sport has not gone unnoticed.

Certification:

Lumala became the first certified skating coach in Uganda, earning his certification from Skate Fresh UK, a renowned skating school in the United Kingdom.

His coaching has further solidified his status as a pioneer of skating in Uganda.

As Lumala prepares for his next challenge—the Bont Florida Inline Skating Marathon in October 2024—his story serves as an inspiration to many.

From the streets of Kampala to the international stage, Lumala has shown that with passion, perseverance, and support, one can overcome any obstacle and achieve greatness.

Uganda, support your boy, skater Lumala, as he continues to break barriers and put Ugandan skating on the world map.
