The Chelangat entity of Sarah and Annet Chemengich will represent Uganda in the Women’s 10,000m race during the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France this Friday.

With Joy Cheptoyek still injured, that means Uganda will field two athletes in this race that is anticipated to be epic inside Stade De France.

This very year, Sarah Chelangat, 23, set a Ugandan National Record in the 10,000m at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene with a time of 30:24:04.

Annet Chemengich, 31, comes to this race with a wealth of experience having competed at various competitions.

The Women’s 10,000m field also has Megan Keith (Great Britain), Weini Kelati Frezghi (USA), Daisy Jepkemei (Kazakhstan) and others.

Uganda is also still alive in the Men’s 5000m where Oscar Chelimo will run in the final on Saturday evening.

On the same day, the men’s marathon team will be in contention before the climax on Sunday with the women’s marathon.

The XXXIII Olympiad will officially be closed on Sunday, 11th August 2024.

A total of 10,700 athletes were registered for the 32 different sports disciplines with 329 events.

Team Uganda had a delegation of 25 members, 21 of whom are from athletics.

The others are from swimming (2), rowing (1) and cycling (1).

Joshua Cheptegei (10,000m) and Peruth Chemutai (3000m Steeplechase) are the only medals thus far; a gold and silver respectively.
