Eddy Kenzo has made a promise to deliver the long-awaited copyright amendment law before the close of 2024.

Speaking at the weekly Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) jam session on Tuesday, Kenzo expressed optimism about the bill’s passage, attributing it to his renewed collaboration with the government and President Yoweri Museveni.

I assure you that we are likely to have a copyright law before Christmas.Eddy Kenzo

Kenzo’s recent appointment as a senior presidential advisor has played a role in reviving the stalled copyright amendment bill.

According to him, President Museveni has shown a keen interest in resolving the lingering issues that have previously hindered the bill’s progress.

During the session, Kenzo revealed that President Museveni has directed continuous discussions between artists and the executive branch of the government to address the remaining contentious points in the bill.

The president has given us a couple of weeks, and we are going back to meet him to discuss and iron out the remaining sticky issues. We shall discuss this at State House.

Kenzo also highlighted that the bill’s failure over the years was due to prolonged disputes among stakeholders.

The copyright law had failed for years because people were only quarrelling. Now we have come up with a different approach to deliberations, and it is working.
