Villa players, coach vow to do everything to oust CBE

Following a disastrous first leg outing that they lost 2-1 at Namboole, SC Villa have vowed to make amends when they face CBE in the second leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

The UPL champions put up arguably their worst performance in a long-time last Saturday and now need to dig deeper if they are to oust the Ethiopian league winners.

Morley Byekwaso, speaking after the club’s last training session at YES Sports Arena in Nsambya before the team flew out, emphasized being lethal at both ends of the pitch.

“The game in Ethiopia means a lot to us as coaches and players especially after a bad result we had in the first leg,” said Byekwaso. “The target is to get a positive result that will enable us progress and face Young Africans in the next round,” he added.

“It won’t be easy and we must be lethal in attack and be cautious as well as we can’t afford to be losing possession easily since they are a good team on the ball who can punish us.

“The first goal in the game is important and we can’t afford to concede first but will do all it takes to get the first goal.”

Forward Patrick Kakande and midfielder Tony Ankunda sounded confident as well revealing readiness to overturn the deficit.

“We have had good preparations and we are to give everything to win,” said Kakande, a culprit for missing two good chances in the reverse fixture.

“As a player, i target a better performance to lift the team as going past this stage will improve our CVs as well.”

For Atukunda, the mission is simple. “Fight hard, win the game and get to meet Young Africans since that’s our biggest target now,” he added.

For Villa to get to the next stage, they will have to beat CBE by a two-goal margin.
