UCU Lady Canons regained a 2-1 lead in the semifinal series after edging KIU Rangers 52-48 in the National Basketball League on Tuesday evening at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

Just like it was in game two, the Rangers staged a great defensive approach that limited the Lady Canons’ long shot as well as forcing them into avoidable turn overs.

Even without coach Nicholas Natuhereza on the bench, the Lady Canons hang in till the last minute of the game.

UCU Lady Canons started on the front foot, creating a six-point lead (20-14) at the end of the opening period.

The Canons kept their foot on the gas pedal as they opened an eight-point lead (29-21) going into the long break.

Coming from the locker rooms, the Rangers looked like a house on fire fighting for every possession. They went on to limit the Canons to seven points as they trailed by three points (33-36) at the end of the third period.

The Lady Canons held on to secure a four-point lead against a hard-working Rangers side.

Only Shakira Nanvubya (14 points) and Hajara Najjuko (11 points) scored in double digits for the Lady Canons.

On the other hand, Sharon Kirabo and Racheal Nanyonga scored 11 points each for the Rangers.
