Victoria Pearls off the mark at Kwibuka

Match Summary: Uganda W vs. Botswana W

  • Uganda 140/6
  • Botswana 69/5
  • Uganda won by 71 runs

Victoria Pearls made light work of Botswana in their opening game at the 10th Edition of the Kwibuka women’s tournament.

Janet Mbabazi won the toss and elected to bat first against a less-fancied opponent. Youngster Asumin Akurut earned her first Victoria Pearls cap.

Mbabazi and Immaculate Nakisuyi took time to get used to the pace of the wicket, surviving a couple of close appeals but they managed to negotiate to 40 before Immaculate Nakisuyi departed.

The loss of Mbabazi rocked the boat a bit but a 54-run partnership between Proscovia Alako (23) and Stephanie Nampiina (42) steadied things for the Victoria Pearls as they finished on 140/6 in their 20 overs.

In the run chase, Botswana didn’t show any intent in chasing down the total. Consy Aweko (2/4) and the whole unit did put on the chokehold to limit Botswana to only 69/5 in their 20 overs.

It was a routine win for Uganda who didn’t even have to engage second gear but a morale-boosting win on the opening day of the tournament.

The team will have a rest with tomorrow’s opponent Nigeria on their minds.
