Over the weekend, the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadan Mubajje, bitterly stung individuals who use TikTok saying they’re idle and talk nonsense.

He claimed that the app is useless and called upon the government to ban it saying it is more harmful than Facebook which was closed about four years ago.

The public has since responded to his sentiments with many public figures airing out how the app is important and impactful to many Ugandans.

Ibrahim Bbossa, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) spokesperson weighed in on the matter stressing that it is hard to ban the app because it is a foreign app.

He, however, noted that the only way it can be regulated is by enforcing the Computer Misuse Act so that when someone insults another, you drag him to the courts of law.

Sheikh Bruhan Kiti also gave his view saying the app doesn’t need to be banned but only regulated as it has helped in spreading positive information to masses of people in a short while.
