Police confirm Matia Lule as Mugerwa’s heir

Matia Lule has returned to Uganda Premier League management with a job at Police FC.
The former KCCA, Express and Uganda U-17 & 20 national coach takes over from Simon Peter Mugerwa who was relieved of his duties following the team’s 3-1 loss to Soltilo Bright Stars on match day 22.
According to the statement released by the club on Saturday April 5, 2025, Lule will be assisted by former Uganda Cranes left back Nestroy Kizito and Ahmed Borini Olima who have been part of Mugerwa’s staff.

Ex-Vipers and URA experienced goalkeeping coach Stephen Kiggundu Billy will be the new goalkeepers’ coach taking over from Ben Kalama.

Police are currently in 12th position with 23 points, only six above relegation zone with eight matches left to conclude the season.
The 2005 league champions are also in the quarter finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup whose draw will be held on Monday.
Lule and his team will begin their tenure with a home game against equally desperate Police FC on Thursday April 10.
