Joel Ssenyonyi explains why he no longer supports English football giants Arsenal
National Unity Platform (NUP) spokesperson and Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, has revealed why he no longer supports English football giants Arsenal — and why he currently doesn’t follow any football club at all, local or international.
Ssenyonyi shared that his brief stint as an Arsenal sympathiser was largely influenced by his close friends, many of whom were passionate Gunners fans.
For some time I became an Arsenal sympathiser. Why? Because these my friends many times they are always crying — the team is being beaten — so I was always the one comforting them.
I wasn’t an ardent follower and so on, but I used to see my friends who support Arsenal annoyed every weekend, so I’d comfort them and say it’s okay.
Despite being a well-known public figure, Ssenyonyi says he has no current allegiance to any football team, even in the Uganda Premier League, admitting that he no longer actively follows the sport.
