Uganda Red Cross unveils “Humanity Needs You” campaign to drum for citizens’ partnership to save lives.
As part of the Uganda Red Cross Society's celebration to mark 60 years since its establishment in 1964, the independent body has launched a campaign titled “Humanity Need You” aimed at calling upon the public to join hands with the Red Cross Society in fulfilling their mandate through raising funds to support the various activities during emergencies.
The new campaign tells a bigger Red Cross story where the response to address the needs of people facing adverse circumstances and complex situations will originate from the collective effort of all Ugandans to define the power of love to humanity.
During the launch of the campaign on Tuesday 9th July 2024, at their offices in Kampala, The Secretary-General of The Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS), Mr. Robert Kwesiga said that the campaign aims to appeal to the public to support the initiatives of the Red Cross to raise funds to support various programs and activities as well as educating the public on the role they play in Uganda in their services to humanity.
“As we launch the “Humanity Needs You” campaign, we are reminded of the power of collective effort and the difference we can make if we unite as Ugandans and all the people who love humanity. The Uganda Red Cross has created this space for you, come and join us in this mission” he said.

The Secretary-General also highlighted that for the public to participate, they can give or join as a member, a volunteer, an ambassador, or a blood donor, among others.
He added that at the climax of the campaign, a Red Cross Humanity Fund will be put in place to ensure sustainable support, with a team of trustees, and an international audit firm.
The Director of communications, and Resource Mobilization and Partnerships, Ms. Irene Nakasiita said that the campaign targets various categories through the different activities of the campaign to raise resources to sustain programs including recruiting new members, volunteers, blood donation drives in various locations including schools, workplaces, community centers, and other programs.
She said that to enhance participation, the Uganda Red Cross has partnered with media houses, to create more awareness, they have also opened up channels to ensure direct support including mobile money services of MTN Momo, airtel which details can be accessed through the media, social media platforms, their website www.redcrossug.org among others.
Uganda Red Cross Society was established in 1964 by the Act parliament after Uganda signed the Geneva Protocol. Though the entity is created by the government, it operates independently as an auxiliary body to execute its mandate that now been widened to include disaster response, emergencies, support to vulnerable people, prevention, mitigations, and restoration among others.
