Sexual assault and drink spiking suspect identified in Martha Ahumuza Murari death case

A new development has surfaced in the investigation into the death of Martha Ahumuza Murari, who collapsed at Mezo Noir Bar in Kololo, Kampala, and later died at Kampala Hospital.
According to Daily Monitor, Ahumuza was sexually assaulted and had her drinks spiked before her collapse, with evidence pointing to Edward Mugabo, a cashier at the bar, as the prime suspect.

Police retrieved WhatsApp messages from Ahumuza’s phone, showing her interactions with Mugabo leading up to the fateful night.
The messages reveal that Ahumuza, who was staying with her mother, Barbara Kagonyera, in Namugongo, Kiira Division, had planned to meet Mugabo at Mezo Noir. With her mother away on a business trip in Dubai, Ahumuza reportedly seized the opportunity to arrange the meetup, asking Mugabo if he would be at the bar on Wednesday night.
Investigators say Ahumuza arrived in Kololo around 10 p.m., initially spending about an hour and a half at another bar before joining Mugabo at Mezo Noir at 11 p.m.
It was there, detectives allege, that she consumed the liquor believed to have been laced with a toxic substance.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows Ahumuza entering an office within the bar alongside Mugabo. Shortly afterward, Mugabo emerged in a state of distress and sought assistance from his brother, Joseph Kalenzi.
According to a detective involved in the case, “By the time Ahumuza collapsed from the bar, all customers had left, and there were only four people remaining in the bar.”
The investigator further revealed that after consuming the alleged poisoned drink, Ahumuza was sexually assaulted before losing consciousness.
Ahumuza was rushed to Kampala Hospital, where she was pronounced dead the following day.
