Time over and again, the Ethiopian football opposition has established a concept of free-flowing football.

Characterized by patient building of play from the back, through to the midfield and eventually to the forwards as they seek to find the back of the net, the Ethiopians have a known philosophy.

Whichever team right from underage categories to the senior national teams across either gender, Ethiopian football teams are famed for their romantic approach of play.

This is the same style that Sports Club Villa interim head coach Morley Byekwaso exactly expects their opponents in the CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) expects to encounter.

The two clubs face off on the evening of Saturday, 17th August 2024 at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole (4 PM, East African standard time).

Byekwaso expects the same approach from the Ethiopians and has already done his own homework, to the brim as confessed after the team’s last training session.

“We are aware of the approach of play from all Ethiopian teams. They love to build play as they freely pass the ball” Byekwaso admitted.

“We have practiced on how to encounter them with the high press in all departments of play as we also possess the ball to utilize it well going forward” Byekwaso added moments after the Sports Club Villa last training session at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Friday evening.

A heavy evening down-pour around Kampala and the surrounding areas partially disrupted the last training sessions for the two clubs.

The Ethiopians trained for less than half an hour before the Jogoos also came in for their last training session.

CBE’s star player Simon Peter Oketch, a former player at Uganda’s BUL football expressed readiness coming to the duel against Sports Club Villa.

“We are more than ready to play SC Villa. The mood in our camp is positive and every player is ready to give 100 percent” Oketch revealed.

Sports Club Villa will miss two players in this contest; Reagan Mpande and Misi Ssemugera through injuries.

The return leg will be played in Addis Ababa city next weekend.
