The Minister of Sports Peter Ogwang has promised to mediate between Mandela National stadium, Namboole, UPDF engineering brigade and SC Villa over the use of the stadium on Saturday.

SC Villa are set to host Ethiopia’s CBE in the Caf Champions League on Saturday August 17 in the first leg of the preliminary round at the venue although Kitara couldn’t play their Caf Confederation Cup there after revealing Namboole was unavailable due to works on the running track.

Contrary to the confirmation from the UPL Champions, Lt. Col Peter Kidemuka reiterates that the Villa – CBE match won’t take place at Namboole.

“There is no team which will play here. Namboole is still under renovation,” he told the media. “They can’t come and destroy this and you can see its even still wet,” he added.

“No team has been allowed to play here. If they have allowed, maybe they will be dropped using a chopper. Me am a contractor and my work is to build, if the organisers think parallel, then I don’t know.”

For the Sports Minister, everything must be done for the Jogoos to host their match at home.

“In the first place, I want to send my regrets to Kitara for not being able to host their match at home,” he told the media at the commissioning of the Pamoja Afcon Local Organizing Committee offices.

“As government, we understand the importance of hosting matches – for both clubs and national teams at home,” he added.

Hon. Peter Ogwang, the state minister of sports

“On Wednesday morning, I am going to convene a meeting with the Ministry of Defence because me as a I client, I feel they have even delayed and I know this will be sorted and Villa will host their match here.

“You can imagine the opponent is already aware of Namboole as the match venue and it doesn’t make sense to communicate a change at the moment.

At the moment, SC Villa are sure of hosting at Namboole but all that will depend on the outcome of the meeting.
