  • SC Villa 4-2 Mbarara City

Uganda’s football Rooster has officially crowed.

On match day one of the 2024-2025 Uganda Premier League Sports Club Villa won convincingly 4-2 over visiting Mbarara City at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku Stadium on an odd Monday evening.

Defender Arnold Odong, Elvis Ngonde, Patrick Jonah Kakande and Hakim Kiwanuka were all on target for the home side.

Seiri Arigumaho and second half substitute Paul Busolo got the goals for the Ankole Lions.

From the onset of play, the Jogoos were dominant and as early as the 8th minutes, Odong headed past goalkeeper Abdul KImera after an inviting free-kick form David Owori.

Three minutes later, It would have quickly been 2 goals up but Hakim Kiwanuka missed from an acute angle after a great solo run.

Ngonde struck from distance, about 30 yards for the home team’s second goal on 18 minutes.

Kakande came to the party with a deft chip in the 22nd minute but Mbarara City’s Musa Ibrahim was alert with a clearance.

Ronald Edwok became the first player to be cautioned by referee Ali Sabila for a foul in the 24th minute.

It was the Jogoos once again with Kiwanuka’s shot off an acute angle.

The numerous attacks from SC Villa called for an urgent action plan from Mbarara City’s technical docket headed by Charles Livingstone Mbabazi.

Edwok and Yusuf Mafabi paved way for the dread-locked Francis Odongo and Latif Ssenkubuge respectively.

Mbarara City’s first offensive action fell to forward Seiri Arigumaho after 31 minutes.

The diligent forward had a free-kick land directly to goalkeeper Braddy Wokoroach.

The next Jogoo game will be away to Mbale Heroes on 22nd September 2024.
