Women’s T20 League Finals | Match Summary

  • Soroti City 125/6
  • Olila CC 109/8
  • Soroti City won by 16 runs

Soroti City defended the Women’s T20 League title in a great game against Olila Cricket Club, winning by 16 runs.

Olila came into the final on the back of an unbeaten record and they pushed the defending champions till the final over.

Olila won the toss and elected to bowl first. Soroti City was steady out of the blocks and despite losing a couple of wickets, they kept the scoreboard ticking.

Proscovia Alako (43) scored very quickly off just 22 balls that included three mighty sixes in the last over and captain Janet Mbabazi chipped in with 18.

Olila will be kicking themselves for being very poor in the field as they put down Alako a couple of times and she made them pay while their ground fielding was also very poor with balls going through their bodies.

In the run chase, Olila was very slow out of the blocks and had only 43 runs on board inside 10 overs. A 42-run partnership between Phiona Khulume (32) and Malisa Ariokot took the game to Soroti City but ultimately wasn’t enough falling short by 13 runs.

Olila’s top order lacked the intent at the beginning, which could have reduced the deficit significantly for the middle and lower order.

Soroti City the happier of the two sides but at the end of the contest, clearly a City not divided but more united by their love for the game.
