On 13th September 2024, The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda together with the Alumni Association of Nyakasura School launched a fundraising drive to renovate the school, a mixed, boarding, middle, and high school in Fort Portal, Kabarole District, Western Uganda, especially the 10 hoses of the school where the Alumni Association members while at Nyakasura School in different classes and years.

Members of the Alumni Association Chaired by Businessman Dr. Patrick Bitature were applauded for their contributions to renovating the schoolhouses as part of celebrations to mark 100 years of its existence.

While flagging off the drive, The Chief Guest, Archbishop Dr Stephen Kazimba Mugalu commended the Alumni Association members for the fundraising campaign to renew the school that made them who they are saying that it's never too late to do what's good for a school like Nyakasura which shaped vibrant people in Uganda today.

“I thank the vibrant leadership of the Alumni Association. This is the right time to begin afresh, renewing Nyakasura School is an expression of love fo the school, the very reason why God still cares and elevates you to be productive” he said

The Archbishop said that when remembering your school, there is no reason to lament and blame each other for being late to act, but there is a need to rise and make it.

“God calls us at the appropriate time, we should not lament or blame. Let’s rise up and make it happen” he said.

He pledged support for the school based on the report and suggestions made during the launch of the 100 years celebrations which he said will be discussed at a higher level.

The Chairperson of the Alumni Dr. Patrick Bitature through his representative Hon. Aston Peterson Kajara, while applauding the members of the Alumni Association for their support and honoring the invitation to launch the fundraising drive, called upon every member and well-wisher to drum up contributions to renew Nyakasura School.

“I commend the Alumni members for the support and the flag off of the fundraising drive. I encourage all of us to put in more effort so that Nyakasura can shine again” he said

Hon. Kajara urged all the alumni to pressure all relevant institutions to prioritize rehabilitation and support for schools, including Nyakasura.

Dr. Patrick Bitature boosted the fundraising drive with UGX 10 Million in addition to offering a free venue for meetings at Protea Hotels.

Hon Kajara contributed and paid a cheque of UGX 2 Million while other Alumni members pledged over UGX 35 Million, while others pledged to use the payment channels provided for the different houses towards the main celebration including the Equity Bank Account in the Names of “Nyakasura Alumni”

The houses that are targeted for renovation include: Balya House, Cooper House, Commander House, Komwiswa House, Kasagama House, Damali House, Annet Batchelor House, and Joan Perrens House.
