The 2024 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games officially got underway in Uganda (co-hosted by Bukedea Comprehensive school and Amus College), Bukedea district.

Uganda’s president H.E General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officiated at the games official opening ceremony at the newly constructed Bukedea Sports Park stadium before hundreds of people.

This is the 7th time that Uganda is hosting these games in 21 years and it was the first time ever that President Museveni officiated at the opening ceremony.

In his remarks executed in 12 minutes, the president preached about the essence of the East African integration.

“East Africa is an issue of livelihood. We need the market for our goods and services, security and unity.” He remarked in a mixture of English and Swahili dialects.

Donning his traditional pure white cotton shirt and round hat on the head, the president emphasized the value of sports.

“Sports helps economic integration and in future, political integration. The East Africa Federation does not only encompass only sports but also strategic security and the prosperity of all East Africans. We need prosperity, strategic security and Ubuntu. You cannot live a good life without engaging in the production of goods or services. This has been out longstanding experience here in Uganda, which we shared with our colleagues in the East African community including Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and others.” He added.
