Police lock horns with BUL on their first game of the 2024/25 premier league on Monday oozing with confidence.

The Cops who were relegated from the top division at the end of the 2021/22 campaign earned promotion as champions in the Fufa Big League and after two years down there, the target will be to stay up.

Skipper Joseph Ssentume who was part of the team that went down sounded confident ahead of their league opener.

“We are ready and want to show that from the first game,” he told the media. “BUL is a good side, we give them respect but not afraid to face them because to be sincere, we are a bigger team,” he added.

The hosts will hope to carry on their form from Fufa Big League where they didn’t lose a match at home and have hopes vested in experienced forwards Isaac Ogwang and Herman Wasswa to look for the desired goals as well ex-BUL striker Gerald Ogweti.

Denis Iguma and Mathias Muwanga could also debut for the Cops who ironically lost their last top flight match to BUL in 2022.

For BUL, they come into the game with one aim, start the season well as they seek to compete for the title they lost on the final day of the last season.

With the Fufa Super 8 in the trophy cabinet, Abbey Kikomeko believes they have what it takes to fight for the league.

In Isaac Wagoina, Dickson Matama, Yafesi Mubiru and Anwar Ntege, he has forwards who can torment any backline with Najib Fesali and company keeping things tight at the back.

Key Stats:

  • In the previous 18 league meetings, BUL holds edge with 10 wins [L5, D3]
  • Police’s only defeat at home last season was in the Stanbic Uganda Cup; 2-0 versus NEC. [W12, D2]
  • However, their last home league defeat was against BUL in 2021/22 season
