Badminton shuttled off at Sam Kuloba Hall (Mbale Secondary School) during the 2024 FEASSA Games, hosted by Uganda.

Uganda started brilliantly in the team events in either gender with victories for Kibuli Secondary School and Kinaawa High School Kawempe for the men.

There were also wins for Mbogo High School and Rubaga Girls School in the women gender.

Men’s defending champions Kibuli Secondary School smiled past debutants St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) 5-0.

Aaron Ndawula defeated Joshua Kenneth Kayom 2-0 (21-15, 21-16) in 20 minutes.

Akbar Nooh Oduka used a quarter an hour to dismantle Dominic Singa 2-0 (21-10, 21-09).

Tendo Arafat Kibirige overcame Victor Senfuka 2-0 (21-16, 21-09) in 16 minutes.

The pairing of Kibirige and Nooh Oduka humbled Kayom and Robert Oroma 2-0 (21-09, 21-09) in 14 minutes.

The second pairing of Ndawula and Nooh Oduka beat Bruce Ahabwe and Victor Senfuka 21-14 and 21-14 in 20 minutes.

Rubaga Girls school comprehensively won 5-0 over Kenya B with Shamika Mohammad Rafi Fadila winning 2-0 (21-10, 21-08) in 15 minutes.

Betty Olivia Kyomukama won 2-1 over Mary Njoroge (19-21, 21-18, 14-21) in 34 minutes,

Ketty Ndagire used 17 minutes to beat Naomi Chepngeno 2-0 (21-11, 21-11) under 17 minutes.

In the doubles, Fadila and Ndagire won 2-0 over Alicia Wangari and Shadia Namiyingo (21-08 and 21-09) whilst Kyomukama combined with Joan Kimberley Ssendiwala to smile 2-0 over Njoroge and Veronica Anyango (21-09, 21-03) in 14 minutes.

Kenya A won 3-2 over Kakungulu Memorial School with Haria Dheer winning over Axam Bossa 2-0 (21-10, 21-16) in 17 minutes.

Reagan Nsubuga outsmarted Reddy Avula 2-0 (21-12 and 21-16) in 19 minutes. Brian Kiplimo won 2-0 over Eric Ofoyuru 2-0 (21-05 and 21-14) in 18 minutes.

Avula teamed up with Dheer to edge Axam and Julius Zamba 2-0 (21-09 and 21-09) while Nsubuga and Ofoyuru beat Kiplimo and Punjabi Lakshya 2-0 (21-10 and 21-14) under 19 minutes.

The women defending champions Mbogo High School comprehensively won 5-0 over Kakungulu memorial school thanks to the team effort of Tracy Naluwooza, Vivian Nalule and Musa Maliha who won their respective single games.

Naluwooza used 13 minutes to overcome Brenda Namanya 2-0 (21-03 and 21-04). Nalule was too host for Rebecca Ijhuka with a 2-0 win (21-15 and 21-18) under 22 minutes whilst Maliha defeated Claire Namirembe 2-0 (21-19 and 21-15) in 25 minutes.

Naluwooza then combined with Nazifah Nakiyemba to earn a walk over past Ijhuka and Namirembe.

Ramiah Bukenya, playing alongside Vivian Nalule won 2-0 over Brenda Namanya and Victor Namubiru 2-0 (21-08 and 21-10) in 16 minutes.

There are doubles, mixed doubles and singles competition as the Badminton action continues on Tuesday through to Friday, 23rd August 2024.

Badminton is among the sports disciplines at 2024 FEASSA Games. The other games include Rugby (7’s and 15’s), Handball, Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball (3X3 and 5X5), Goalball, football, netball, handball, athletics, swimming, tennis and table tennis.

The games will run until Tuesday, 27th August 2024, on the day of the official closing ceremony.

Uganda is the overall defending champion after the games held in Huye city, Rwanda last year.
