Nobert Okeny fine form continues into new 7s season

Nobert Okeny was Uganda’s top try scorer during the first round of the 2024 Rugby Africa Men’s 7s in Mauritius.

The utility back touched down six times, more than any other player on the Cup winners‘ squad during the two days of action. He scored a hat trick against Tunisia and a brace against Burkina Faso in the pool phase on Day One. Then he added a try in the Cup Final against Madagascar on Day Two.

At the ongoing Africa 7s, Okeny has seamlessly continued his fine form from the 2023-24 international season where he was also Uganda’s leading try scorer. He did not miss a single tournament and was also given assistant captain duties during the 7s Challenger finale in Munich.

Denis Etwau follows closely on the scoring charts with five tries. The prolific finisher scored a try in all the matches he started from the pool phase to the Cup Quarterfinals against Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia, and Burkina Faso.

The other multiple try scorers were Aaron Ofoyrwoth (4), Philip Wokorach and Timothy Kisiga (3), and Alex Aturinda (2). Ian Munyani, Adrian Kasito, and Karim Arinaitwe touched down only once while the rest of the team are yet to open their accounts.
