NEC overcome Express to cut gap on leaders Vipers

NEC FC continued to keep their hopes of winning this season’s League title alive after defeating Express FC on Thursday in Lugogo.

The Diehards earned a 3-1 win over the Red Eagles to cut the gap on table leaders Vipers to two points.

Muzamiru Mutyaba, Paul Mucureezi and Allan Mugalu scored a goal each for NEC FC while visiting Express FC got their consolation through Conrad Ssenjogera.

Mutyaba fired the home side into an early lead (4th minute) when Marvin Kavuma teed him up.

In the 20th minute, Kavuma once again set up Mucureezi to double the lead. A long pass from goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo was received by Kavuma inside the box and he teed up Muucureezi to score.

Substitute Mugalu who replaced Enock Ssebagala early on in the second half stretched the lead for the hosts, scoring in the 54th minute.

Senjogera who also came on as a substitute for Express got the consolation goal in the 81st minute.

The win takes NEC FC to 47 points, two behind Vipers who visit SC Villa on Saturday. Express on the other hand remain in seventh place on 28 points.
