Magical Magomu inspires Pirates’ second half thrashing of Rhinos

The match between Rhinos and Black Pirates was close until Ivan Magomu happened. With the first half ending 10-7 in favour of the guests, the game could have gone either way in the second half, but it wasn’t to be.

Hiccups like the yellow cards to Umar Duff and Haruna Muhammad were not enough to
change the course of the game, and relentless attacks from the Rhinos were all thwarted by
a stellar Pirates defense.

With a stacked bench of Desire Ayera, Eliphaz Emong and Conrad Wanyama, a first half
Pirates win was only to be stamped and sealed in the second half. An early introduction of
Ariho Muhumuza only added to more solid ball careers like John Paul Atim and Sydney
Gongodyo that were on the pitch.

An already inspired Pirates side was further bolstered by Ivan Magomu, who registered 3
assists in less than 30 minutes. Despite playing out of his preferred flyhalf position, he
managed to link up well with the rest of the backline of Haruna Muhammad and Timothy
Kisiga, the latter scoring in the corner, for the first of 3 Magomu assists. Jones Kamiza and
William Nkore were the other recipients.

Despite making several appearances off the bench and only starting one game since his
return from a lengthy ban, Magomu has been impactful in all the games he has played. In
his words, he always sees the game from a “different dimension” when he’s on the bench.

In addition, he has a lot of trust in the coaches and the players who are put ahead of him, as
he returns to full game fitness.

Hail King William

William Nkore has made a case for himself in that Number 10 shirt. The in-form flyhalf has
been arguably the best playmaker, not only for the Pirates, but across the league.

In the absence of Ivan Magomu, the Pirate ship has sailed steadily, thanks to the brilliance of Nkore, who has been immaculate off the boot, whether for points, touch or territory.

In addition to his kicking and commandeering of attacks, he has improved his try-scoring exploits.

On the day when he joined the enviable centurion club, he managed to put 19 points on
board, bringing his regular season tally to 141 points. Move along Ivan Magomu, King
William is here.
