Ssenyondo picks positives Cubs despite heavy Morocco defeat

Uganda Cubs coach Brian Ssenyondo was left to rue a poor first half but picked positives from his side’s 5-0 defeat to hosts Morocco in the opening match of the 2025 U17 Afcon.
The hosts tore the Cubs apart in a dominant fashion and were 4-0 up in the first half but could only score once in the second half.
“In the second half, the boys showed the character, played with more passion and energy and we hope to take that into the game against Tanzania,” said Ssenyondo who now shifts focus to the second group match against regional rivals Tanzania.
“It is not the results we wanted as we prepared well to try and match Morocco but I must admit they are a very good lesson and we have learnt a lot of lessons especially from their first half performance where they punished us with every chance.”
To qualify from the group and achieve the ultimate target of qualifying for the world cup, the Cubs must regroup fast ahead of duels against Tanzania and Zambia.
