NEC held in Bombo, lose ground in title race

NEC FC chances of winning this season’s League title suffered a blow on Friday after playing out a goalless draw away to UPDF FC in Bombo.

The Diehards who recently had closed the gap between them and leaders Vipers SC to two points could not secure all points today.

It should be noted that Vipers SC eho had lost to SC Villa last weekend recovered to edge Lugazi FC 1-0 yesterday and stretch the lead at the top to five. Therefore, NEC FC needed to make a response today.

Like it has been all season, NEC FC once again struggled on the road, failing to find a breakthrough against a resolute UPDF FC outfit.

Hussein Mbalangu and his charges have been nearly-perfect at home (Lugogo) and he has often referred to the place as Slaughter House. However, their troubles away from home are yet to find a lasting solution with eight games to the end of the season.

Of the 11 League games played in Lugogo this season, NEC FC has won 10, the other ending in a goalless draw (against Police FC).

On the other hand, the Diehards have played 11 games away, winning three, losing two and drawing six

The result from today’s game leaves NEC FC on 48 points, four behind leaders Vipers SC. The two teams will face on 17th April in Kitende.

UPDF FC on the other hand remained in 10th position on 28 points.
