Express Football Club fans in tranquil assembly, Bakunda bounces back as chairperson

Express Football Club fans convened a successful meeting at Hamz Stadium (Nakivubo war memorial grounds) over the weekend.
Key of this meeting was the issue of leadership amongst the fans.
Julius Bakunda was granted another term in office as the fans’ chairperson.
He is working alongside Gertrude Nakyanzi as vice chairperson.
“I am happy to return as the chairperson for Express Football Club fans. It is an honour to serve and shall be ready to widen further the fan base as we cheer our lovely club. We need unity and cooperation in this journey” Bakunda attested.

Other members on the executive are Shafic Kasule (secretary), Emma Nsubuga (treasurer), Lawrence Mayanja (branch coordinator), Abasi Nkata (welfare), Sula Zimula (transport), Bob Kalema (transport), Fatinah Kasibante (women affairs), Fredrick Kimuli (fans’ publicity) and Haruna Walugembe (the UAE Ambassador).
The electoral process presiding officer was Brian Ssegawa.
Also discussed were the positives (opportunities and achievements) vis-à-vis the challenges encountered by the club for the previous season.
The fans also deliberated upon the vibrancy of the Express Red Army throughout the country, the current issues of the club, among others.

In this season, the Red Eagles have blown hot and cold with inconsistent performances home and away.
Out of the 22 games played, Express has managed to win 8, drawn 4 times and lost 10 as they have fetched 28 points, seated in the 9th position.
They are 24 points shy from the current leaders Vipers.
During the recent times, Express FC suffered a setback with a players’ revolt and refusal to train as they demand unpaid salaries, allowances and other wages.
The club management has since vowed to vehemently arrest the situation as the final bend of the season fast approaches.
For starters, Express Football Club was founded in 1957 and has won the Uganda Premier League seven times (1974, 1975, 1993, 1995, 1996, 2011-12 and lately 2020-2021).
They are 10 time winners of the Stanbic Uganda Cup competition (1985, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2002-03, 2006 and lately 2006-07) with one East African Hedex Super Cup (2001-2002).
Arguably, Express FC boosts of the largest and most passionate football fan bases in Uganda.
