Abby Mukiibi shares early struggles, positive about the evolution of the local film industry

Abby Mukiibi Nkaaga, a renowned actor, emcee, and radio host, has shared some of the hardships they had to overcome to establish themselves as public figures in the film industry.

While sharing his path to stardom, he noted that they lacked mentorship and financial support as they kicked off their film careers and only used their campus upkeep to achieve their goals.

“One of the biggest challenges we faced in the film industry was the lack of mentorship and financial support. The beginning was tough, and we had to use our campus upkeep to get by,” Abby Mukiibi said in an interview.

He also disclosed that the film industry in Uganda is headed in the right direction, and the stakeholders are currently taking the right steps to evolve it and steer it forward.

“The movie and film industry in Uganda is still in its early stages. While we’re taking small steps, we’re headed in the right direction. I would rate our industry 7/10. At the moment, MultiChoice is the only significant buyer for our films,” he added

Talking about the Theater industry, Mr. Abby Mukiibi explained that to stay relevant, they have to keep up to speed with the new generation and technology that has rapidly changed most things worldwide.

Theater is evolving. To stay relevant, we must connect with new audiences and adapt to trends. Engaging young people on TikTok can lead them to the theater later.
