Lilian Mbabazi reflects on challenging days working on radio

Did you know Lilian Mbabazi worked on radio before? Well, she opened up about her time behind the mic and the challenges that ultimately led her to step away from it.
I miss working on radio, but not so much because it’s demanding. Lilian Mbabazi

Eager to explore new opportunities during her campus days, she took up a mid-morning show on Beat FM.
At the time before they took the show to Capital FM, we were presenting in English, and I worked there when it was owned by Halima Namakula and her son as Managing Director.
Lilian’s passion for radio didn’t end there. After her stint at Beat FM, she would occasionally visit Sanyu FM to learn more about the technical side of the industry, including radio production.
Her dedication paid off when she got a call from Capital FM—one of Uganda’s biggest stations.
I started with the unpopular shows no one listens to, like 1 a.m. in the morning.
During her training period, she was asked not to use her real name, so she adopted the on-air pseudonym “Ginna,” even though she had already made a name as a member of the Blu*3.
Her career steadily progressed as she filled in on The Late Date show, originally hosted by DJ Ronnie, and eventually found herself co-hosting The Breakfast Show with Gaetano and Oulanyah.
Despite the excitement, balancing her radio career with the demanding schedule of Blu*3 proved difficult.
Lilian took a break from Capital FM but later returned to the airwaves with Radio City, where she hosted the Mid Morning Magazine show. Still, the fast-paced lifestyle of radio eventually became too much.
It takes a toll on you eventually. But yes, I enjoyed it. I wouldn’t go back, though.
