Namuwongo Blazers secured a hard-fought 86-79 victory against Our Savior in the Castle Lite National Basketball League at Lugogo Arena on Wednesday night.
The victory meant that Namuwongo Blazers sealed a spot in the semifinals of the ongoing playoffs.
Our Savior started on the right foot, opening up a one-point lead (25-24) as they searched for a leveller in the best-of-three series.
The Blazers stepped up in the second quarter as they fought for every rebound and contested every shot. At the end of the quarter, the Blazers had a 10-point lead (48-38).
Coming from the long break, it was a closely contested block (18-19) in favour of the Blazers who went on to open an 11-point lead.
Despite Our Savior’s strong fight in the final block of the game, the Blazers held their nerves through the storm to secure a seven-point victory.
Kenneth Mesho led Our Savior’s fight on the night with a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
Moses Mugisha (21), John Focus Teko (15), and Henry Ssebagala also scored double digits for the losing side.
Peter Cheng (19), Jimmy Williams (16), Paul Odong, and Innocent Ochera (12) scored double digits for Namuwongo Blazers.
Blazers will take on the ultimate winner between KIU Rangers and JT Jaguars in the semifinals of the ongoing playoffs.
