Sports Club Villa recently clinched their record extending 17th Uganda Premier League trophy after a successful 2023-2024 season.

The Jogoos amassed a total of 57 points from as many as 29 games after recording 16 victories, 9 draws and 4 losses in the entire season.

The champions were a point better than Jinja based BUL and Vipers in a competitive season that witnessed Arua Hill Sports Club relegated at the half-way mark of the season.

Sports Club Villa main sponsors Ling Long hosted the team during an outing at 6th Street – Industrial Area on the evening of Thursday, 30th May 2024 before members of the fourth estate.

Club president Hajji Omar Mandela was joined by some of the Trustees Franco Mugabe and Mac Dusman Kabega alongside the club Chief Executive Officer (CEO) William Nkemba, team manager Samuel Mubiru and executive member Sarah Sharon Adong as well as the members of Mandela Group of companies.

“We appreciate the support from Ling Long. The club has shared goals with Ling Long. We thank the players, coaching staff, fans and the unseen group from the Mandela Group.” Eng. Nkemba remarked.

The CEO acknowledged that it remains work in progress for the Jogoos.

“There is still a lot of work to do. It remains work in progress. We need more empowerment in the community with future investment in player development. We are also working towards having our own home” he added.

Eng. Nkemba applauded the fans for the special role executed. “There is a heartfelt support to our dear fans who kept moving in all conditions. We look forward better things” he stated.

Vice chairperson for the board of trustees Kabega eyes regional and continental success.

“After re-conquering the domestic front, we attention is now going to the regional and continent for success. We should be the old Villa. I thank the players, Mandela Group, fans and everyone. This is just the beginning” Kabega, a senior lawyer noted.

Speaking on behalf of the players, Garvin Kizito Mugweri was full of fellow teammates for the sacrifice and teamwork.

“I will begin by thanking the club president, our sponsors Ling Long, my fellow players, coaches, fans and media. We sacrificed a lot and skipped many hurdles” Mugweri said.

Sports Club Villa has already embarked on preparations for the new season (2024-2025) where they will represent the country at the CAF Champions League and CECAFA Kagame Cup.

On 1st June 2024, they face old rivals Express during one of the two test matches for the official opening of Nakivubo war memorial stadium.

SC Villa’s Serbian born coach Dusan Stojanovic will miss the game after traveling back to Europe for a brief holiday.
