The Oilers edged the Canons to secure a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series.

The Canons hardly looked sharp, and that can be attributed to the fatigued bodies due to a high-intensity game against KCCA Panthers on Wednesday.

The UCU Canons limited the record champions to only eight points as they went into the long break with a three-point (28-25) lead.

Coming from the locker rooms, City Oilers regained their rhythm, thus re-opening their four-point (46-42) lead at the end of the third quarter.

Despite the fight from the Canons deep in the game, Oilers held their nerves to secure register a five-point victory.

Mer Maker was the Oilers’ outstanding player as he secured a double-double, scoring 18 points and pulling down 16 rebounds.

In the same breath, Fayed Baale (11 points) and Titus Lual (10 points) also scored double digits for the Oilers.

On the other hand, Joel Kayiira secured a double-double, scoring 14 points and as many rebounds.

Peter Sifuma (14 points) and Jimmy Otim (11 points) also contributed double digits for the Canons.

Nick Natuhereza’s charges were so poor on the long shot, failing to convert any of the 13 attempts made from behind the arc while Oilers managed to convert six out of 35 attempts.

Canons were ruthless below the hoops as they managed to grab 13 more rebounds than Oilers who secured the victory on the day.
