After a grueling two hours, six minutes and 26 mirco-seconds, Ethiopian Tamirat Tola won the race under sunny conditions.

Tola’s time was also a new Olympic record, a feat wildly celebrated by a handful of Ethiopian fans including the legend Haile Haile Gebrselassie (four-time world champion and two-time Olympic champion).

Bashir Abdi (Germany) posted 2:06,47 for silver and Kenya’s Benson Kipruto settled for third place with 2:07.00.

It was a rather a tough morning for Uganda’s three ambassadors in this race.
