The first ever mental health awareness football gala is ear-marked to take center stage on Sunday, 11th August 2024 at the MTN Omondi stadium Lugogo in Kampala.

This gala is organized by Gracy Minds Empowerment Initiative Uganda and The Football League Nations Corporate League Limited.

There are 24 teams planned that will be pooled in four different groups and sportingly; there will be one winner.

These different teams in the different groups shall be playing for one cause under one theme; “Speak up today”.

The registration fees per team of 14 players is fixed at Ug.shs 500,000.

Mental health organizations at the fore:

Some of the confirmed mental health organizations that have already confirmed their due partnership with the mental health awareness football gala include the Ministry of Health, Transcultural Psychosocial organization (TPO), Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Mental Health, Uganda National Musicians Federation, Joint Clinical Research Center, Focus of Recovery (FORE), Kings Way Rehab, National Association of Social Workers Uganda, Care First Rehabilitation Center, Uganda Counseling Association, Hope and Beyond, Afaayo Anti-Drug Abuse Initiative and Mild May Hospital.

Format of play:

There teams will be composed of 14 players each with 8 players featuring in a game and unlimited substitutions.

The winning team will take home a glittering trophy, Ug.Shs 1,000,000 and gold medals.

The second team will take silver medals and Ug.Shs 500,000.

Pools:

There are four different groups; A, B, C and D. The teams in group A are; Parliament of Uganda, Uptown Uox, Kitunga Cranes League, Here4 You Foundation, FC Gaucho, TPO Uganda and Bishopian League.

Group B will have Proline Elders, Kampala Hospital, Gazaland UOX, The JOVOC League, BSPN Legends, Nganwa Football League and The Mak Guild League.

In group C; there is Friends of Triple A, San Giovanni, Blossoms of Hope Foundation, Bubz League, Butiki Gayembe, Focus on Recovery Uganda (FORE) and Meddraphil Love Support Foundation.

Pool D has Bake My Day, Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), The Comboni League, Monday Night Football, Kaggwa League, Katuba Oldies and Joint Clinical Research Centre.
