In 1952, St Joseph’s Primary School Katabi in Division A, Entebbe Municipality was founded by the Catholic Church.

72 years later, this Government aided school has continued to exist, amid the different struggles in the country under the motto “For Victory, Aim Higher”.

With many of the current building structures in a dilapidated state, efforts are being taken to rehabilitate them in a bid to create a conducive studying environment.

To achieve the aforementioned, Entebbe Club in conjunction with MTN Uganda have joined hands to raise funds that will go to the rehabilitation of the school.

MTN Monthly Tee at Entebbe Club

This is through the MTN back to school monthly golf tee championship on Saturday, 22nd June at the par-71 Entebbe Club.

Golfers from across the divide will contribute the money through the green fees, half-way house refreshment fees and other donations that will donated by the golfers.

Caroline Makhoha, the head teacher at St Joseph’s Primary School Katabi talks about the current general status of the school whose present population stands at 1004 pupils.

Mrs Caroline Makhoha, head teacher at St Joseph’s Primary School Katabi

“St Joseph’s primary school Katabi was started in 1952 and the school is now 72 years with the same structures which are really old. We have a population of 1004 pupils with 522 girls and 482 girls.” Makhoha states.

She speaks of the challenges at the school where the toilet facilities need improvement to meet the swelling population.

“There is a challenge for the girl child who lack the sanitary towels since they come from relatively poor families. They shun coming to school in their periods and miss classes for at least 4 days in a month and in a term of three months, they miss 12 days which affects their performance in class. They go to the same toilet as the boys, so there need for their special toilet with a wash room. There is also need to have scholastic materials as books, pens, reams of paper, sets and pencils” Makhoha narrated.

Entebbe Club captain Serwano Walusimbi urges golfers and well-wishers to grace the MTN monthly tee in a bid to raise as much money as possible to help in the renovation of the school facilities and purchase of scholastic materials.

I humbly call upon the golfers to come and play in the MTN back to school monthly tee golf tournament as we support education. All the proceeds will be channeled to the improvement of facilities at St Joseph’s primary school, Katabi. There is need to buy sanitary towels for the girls who outnumber the boys as well as the scholastic materials. There is also need for a special girl child toilet facility since there is congestion at the current one which is shared by the boys as well. Serwano Walusimbi, Entebbe Club Captain

The MTN back to school golf tournament is in honour of MTN Group’s 30th anniversary, where MTN is organizing a special edition of the flagship employee volunteerism programme 21 days of y’ello care.

This will be extended to 30 days of y’ello care. The campaign this year is themed “Learn today, lead tomorow”, focusing on bridging the educational divide in underserved communities across MTN’s operational foot print.

On Friday, 21st June 2024, MTN Uganda upgraded a shallow well at the Ongongoja secondary school, a bid intended to combat water scarcity at the school based in Usuk sub county, Katakwi district.

We are humbled by MTN Uganda and Entebbe Club for the plans to help us with sanitary products, scholastic materials and improvement of sanitary services. Sometimes, we find problems with padding and miss classes because the boys may laugh at us when in periods. The development to help us is welcome. Merida Kusemererewa, a 13-year-old P7 pupil – St Joseph’s Primary School, Katabi

Having scholastic materials will help us with class work assignments. We are happy by the golfers and MTN Uganda. Ronald Ofuti, 15-year-old P7 pupil – St Joseph’s Primary School, Katabi

Entebbe Club Golf Course 18th green

Entebbe club is famed for its great ambiance towards the members and all guests inclusive. A round of golf in an environment surrounded by the decimated pine tree species with melodious sounds from the birds and UWEC animal sanctuary as the cool breeze from Lake Victoria filters through is a worthy breathe-taking experience.

The energy, fun-fare and vibe at the famous 19th hole is a stress reliever for many to usher in the weekend after days of toil in offices, the field chores and elsewhere.
