The Uganda Cranes preparations for the two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Botswana and Algeria got a huge boost following a visit by Speaker of Parliament Annet Anitah Among.

On Tuesday, Among was among the dignitaries that watched the team train at Mandela National stadium, Namboole along with Fufa President Moses Magogo, Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua, Sports Minister Peter Ogwang and Bernard Patrick Ogwel, General Secretary National Council of Sports.

On behalf of Parliament, Among handed Ugx. 50 million to the team as a boost, the money received by goalkeeper Ismail Watenga on behalf of the team.

“When you win all the two games, you will get the same bonus,” Among told the already excited players. “We are giving you 50 million and when you win, you will get the same winning bonus,” she added.

“We are doing all this for the love of the country. So, play for the country as we do our best.”

Magogo revealed that the 50 million is none of the business of FUFA and reminded the players that they will receive what they are entitled to by the Federation.

Allan Okello, speaking on behalf of the players promised the speaker and the country that they will give all to win the games.

“For us in football, it is one game at a time so Botswana on Friday is the first target for three points,” he stated. “Then after that, we think about Algeria on Monday,” he added.

“However, the promise is that we shall give all our effort to ensure we win.”

Uganda Cranes lost to Guinea in the first game before seeing off Somalia in closely contested fixtures last year.

It will be the first time in over five years that Uganda hosts a home game at Namboole where they have suffered just one defeat in over 19 years.
