Jinja city-based BUL Football Club officially announced experienced tactician Ibrahim “Uchumi” Kirya as the latest catch to the technical department.

Kirya was appointed as head coach on a-two-year tenure with immediate effect.

The former Uganda Cranes, Nile, Sports Club Villa and Simba player joins a well-established technical team that already has Abbey Kikomeko Bogere (head coach), Simeon Masaba, James Magala, Noah “Babadi” Kasule and the goalkeeping coach duo of Eddie Kaweesa and Abdul Magada.

Kirya is well tried and tested in the coaching spheres having served at Sports Club Villa in four different stints (2000, 2016, 2022-2023 and lately 2024 as head of scouting), Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Entebbe Masavu, Entebbe FC, Lweza, Mbarara City, Tooro United and Wakiso Giants.

He has also ventured into the Buganda Masaza football competition and won the trophy with Gomba (2020) as well as Bulemeezi (2023). He also worked at Busiro last term and currently at Buweekula as the technical director to a big team of coaches led by Felix Kawooya Ssekabuuza (head coach), Sadick Sempigi, Louis Figo Kizito and Mubarak Kiberu (goalkeeping trainer).

Delighted to return home:

Kirya hails from Eastern Uganda, Jinja city in particular, a place where he served as a player with Nile Football Club in the yester-years.

He is glad to be back home as the restoration process of Busoga region’s faded glory day is far-fetched.

“I am a borne of this area (Eastern region) and BUL is our home team” he hinted.

“So, I have just comeback home to train my home team. I am here to bring the glory days of Busoga back because since 1980, the region has not had a team win the league title.” He added.

League title:

Together with the entire team, he has set the ultimate target at guiding BUL football club to the holy grail.

“We shall fight to see BUL FC wins the league very soon if not next season” he concludes in an elaborate interview with BUL FC media docket.

BUL Football Club chief executive officer Joseph Mutaka is humbled by the capture of Kirya, a gentleman who comes with a wealth of experience having served the top clubs in the country as Sports Club Villa and Uganda Revenue Authority, among others.

 “We welcome Ibrahim Kirya to BUL FC. We have chosen him from the very many coaches out there because we believe he has vast experience that he can add onto our technical team. He has been at SC Villa, URA and many other competitive teams in the league. So, if he brings such experience to our club, we think we can compete even more.”

BUL Football Club completed the 2023-2024 season in the second place, behind champions Sports Club Villa.

Christened as the “Eastern Giants”, BUL Football Club has already announced the extension of contract for defender Benon Tahomera as they eye to capture some new players available on the market.
