Mixed Reactions Follow Anita Among’s Marriage Remarks and Pledge to Pay Cattle Bride Price for King Oyo

The Speaker of Parliament, Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament, has sparked controversy following her recent comments about the King of Tooro.
Rt. Hon. Anitah Among represented H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the 30th Coronation anniversary of Omukama Oyo Kabamba Iguru of Tooro. In her speech, Hon. Among emphasized that the 33-year-old King Oyo needed a wife as soon as possible, and her speech at the ceremony went viral on social media.
What attracted social media users’ attention was her suggestion that she was willing to pay the whole bride price to actualize his marriage ambitions.
“Your majesty, you know I’m a cattle keeper. Just get a partner, and I will pay all the dowry. Today, I’m going to deposit,” she said, amidst cheers and ululation from the crowd.
The Batooro, however, were not pleased with the Speaker’s submissions and flooded the comment section expressing their disappointment in her language. They claimed the commoners/bakopi had no right to question the decisions of royalty.

They claimed it was an insult for her even to suggest that she would pay for the whole King’s bride price, something they said was belittling to the kingdom.
