Major House caucus chairs endorse Kamala Harris

The Congressional Black Caucus has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic nominee for president, along with the chairs of the Congressional Hispanic and Asian Pacific American Caucuses. Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal honored President Joe Biden as  “the most progressive and effective President on domestic and economic policy in my lifetime” and enthusiastically endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. “At a time when Donald Trump and his Republican Party have stripped away women’s reproductive freedoms, we will respond by finally electing the first woman to the presidency,” Jayapal said. “I am with you [Joe Biden] - I endorse [Kamala Harris] as our Democratic nominee & will work tirelessly to make sure she is elected our next President in November,” Hispanic Caucus Chair Nanette Barragán tweeted. Rep. Judy Chu, Asian Pacific American Caucus chair, tweeted “Harris fights for us all. She leads the fight to restore our reproductive freedoms. She stood up for us to fight anti-Asian hate. When a gunman killed 11 people in my hometown of Monterey Park, she was there to support us. I’m proud to endorse @KamalaHarris for President!” Additionally, Rep. Jim Clyburn, whose 2020 endorsement of Biden was critical in Biden securing the nomination in 2020, is endorsing Harris. “I echo the good judgement [Biden] demonstrated in selecting Vice President Harris to lead this nation alongside him, and I am proud to follow his lead in support of her candidacy to succeed him as the Democratic Party’s 2024 nominee for President,” Clyburn said in a statement. The influential Rev. Al Sharpton added his support to Harris. “It will be imperative for all Americans, especially Black men, to stand with her in this historic moment,” Sharpton said.
