Light High School Sseguku dominated the 2025 boys and girls football competitions in the Kitende zone, clinching both trophies at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
In the girls’ football final, Light High School Sseguku overcame Kings Way SS 2-0 with Violah Namugabi, an S3 student scoring a brace, a goal in each half.




The titanic clash between Kitende zone record champions St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende and Light High School Sseguku was played under floodlights.
This explosive duel lived to the anticipated billing marred with dramatic scenes, charged up atmosphere, passion, tension, epic and thrilling action that ended in a post-penalty victory.
There was a prolonged delay for kick-off to verify the players’ licenses, an exercise that left out key players for Light High School Sseguku over questions of eligibility.
Light High School Sseguku won the shoot-out 5-4, bringing to a halt St Mary’s Kitende’s two decade’s dominance at the zonal level.




Normal time during this end-to-end contest had ended 1-goal apiece, both goals arriving in the 9 added minutes after regulation time.
Super substitute Leonard Kasaanya scored in the 97th minute, a strike that Light High School players, officials and fans bitterly protested, alleging that the ball never crossed the line.
Ugly scenes erupted with some Light High School officials storming the field of play towards the match officials and some fans threw water bottles onto the field of play.
The unrest took about a quarter an hour before calmness was restored and play resumed under the referee Allan Musisi.
Ikoona Kizza curled home a beautiful free-kick from 30 yards past St Mary’s Kitende goalkeeper Siraje Etuuta for the equalizer well celebrated as the match was now to decided in spot kicks.
During the dramatic shoot out, both teams missed their first two kicks.
St Mary’s Kitende captain Ibrahim Ssebagala had his shot stopped by goalkeeper Gilbert Mazige.


Light High School Sseguku also missed their opening kick when Dante Chewe witnessed his shot saved by the St Mary’s goalkeeper Etuuta.
The rest of the penalties for Light High School Sseguku were scored by Reagan Okwi, Vacy Ssonko, Ikoona Kizza, Abedal Abdulrahman and Bernard.
St Mary’s Kitende scored through Ronald Kigwe, Arafat Nkoola, Cloud Wakenge and Wasswa Ssesanga whilst left footed Farouk Tumwesigye missed his kick.
“This is the victory we have always worked for. I thank the players, my fellow coaches, school management and our fans. The journey has just started. We now eye the Wakiso regionals and nationals” Allan Galyaki, head coach for Light High School Sseguku remarked.


There were no medals for both finalists in the boys’ section whilst the girl’s winner (Light High School Sseguku) got gold with Kings Way taking silver.
Meanwhile, Kajjansi Progressive Academy overcame Kings Way 2-0 in the third place play-off match.
The four semi-finalists in boy’s football will play represent the Kitende zone at the 2025 Wakiso regional championship due to be hosted by Nsangi zone.
