Saturday, 19th July 2025 is specially reserved for the Fort Portal city marathon.
This marathon will entail the main 42 KM section, with the half marathon (21 KM), 10 KM and the 5 KM runners.

Steven Mugabe, the event Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for event boldly attests that the Fort Portal city marathon was specifically designed to celebrate the beauty, culture and vibrancy for one of the most iconic tourist destinations in the world – Fort Portal.
The Fort Portal city marathon is intended to develop the running sport, encourage sports tourism, promote the Fort Portal city as a top destination for tourism and sports, promote healthy living and wellness.



This will also be a unique platform to showcase Fort Portal city’s scenic routes, cultural landmarks and tourist attractions.
It will foster community spirit and economic growth, luring in visitors and shall promote local businesses as well.
The Fort Portal City Marathon is poised to become a signature annual event that blends the excitement of sports with the allure of a world-class tourist destination.

Fort Portal City is set against the backdrop of stunning landscapes, historic landmarks and bustling city life.
The upcoming marathon therefore will offer the different participants an unforgettable experience that blends fitness and healthy lifestyle, community, adventure and culture.
Fort Portal city is famed for a number of cultural, religious and historical landmark features as the world’s famous Toro Kingdom palace (Karuzika), Karambi Tombs, local markets and craft centers, Fort Gerry Portal as well as St John’s Cathedral (Church of Uganda), Virika Cathedral (Catholic) and Kabarole main mosque, among others.





There are a number of scenic routes and activities including the vast and beautiful tea plantations, Tooro Golf Club, Tooro Botanical Gardens, St Leo’s College Kyegobe and Nyakasura school, extra.
The natural landmarks include Rwenzori Mountain (Mountains of the Moon), Crater lakes like Kigere, Nyabikere and Saaka, Amabeere G’anyinamiru (caves), Kibale national park, Sebitoli, Semuliki national park and hot springs.
